T/5 Byrum C. Hall attended high school for two years and was a machine operator, employed by the Dayton Beater & Hoist Company.

He enlisted in Columbus, Ohio on 23 February 1943.

T/5 Hall was assigned to guard German war criminials in the vicinity of Schwarzenborn, Germany. During that guard duty, his gun accidentally discharged while he was cleaning it, resulting in injuries.
