Sgt John N. Erskine graduated from Lowellville High School and the Bliss Business College in Columbus. He was an expert accountant at Clark and Collins.He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio, on 13 September 1943 and was first assigned for paper work but later was sent to Fort Eustis, Virginia, and Fort Dix, New Jersey, for infantry training. He was sent overseas in June 1944.
On 28 September 1944 he was promoted to sergeant.
