T/Sgt Charles H. Lankford volunteered for the U.S. Army in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 25 February 1942.

He attended high school for 1 year and was a mechanic and repairman of motor vehicles.

T/Sgt Lankford was killed and two others were wounded when the motor column they were riding in was staffed by a German fighter plane.

He was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Champigneul, France.
