T/5 John V. Crotty graduated from Jordan High School in 1942. He also attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.He enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 5 April 1943.
John V. Crotty was aboard a glider of the 439th Troop Carrier Group which was damaged by flak before it landed on Landing Zone S.
He was severely wounded in action by enemy small arms fire and died on his wounds on the landing zone.
