More information

The group was returning from a mission and approached their base, Advanced Landing Ground A-96 in Brétigny-sur-Orge around 6 p.m. when it was already dark. Perhaps the pilot made a mistake due to the reflection of lights from other aircraft in his own section. He turned sharply to the left and dived toward the ground. The entire crew of three men was killed.

Cpl Marvin D. Riggs was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Solers, France.

His brother, S/Sgt Wenzel C. Riggs, is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten.
