Cpl John Paine Jr. was a laboratory assistant, employed by the Bethlehem Steel Co. before he enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 17 March 1942.

He was severely wounded in action in April 1945 when the 310th Infantry Regiment was engaged in the battle for the Ruhr Pocket. On 1 May he died of his wounds.
