Pfc Robert W. Deatherage attended high school for two years and was a metal polisher, employed by the Garvey Die Cast & Machine Company.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States at Fort MacArthur, California on 8 December 1941.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his leg.
