Pfc Robert B. Wigstone graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and worked as a machinist for the Sperry Corporation.

He enlisted at Camp Upton, Yaphank, New York on 17 April 1944 and trained at Camp Blanding, Florida and Camp San Luis, California.
