S/Sgt Richard J. Ollinger entered the service February 8, 1943 and trained at Camp Howze in Texas, Camp Livington in Louisiana and Camp Luis Obispo in California before going overseas in late February. He had only been overseas since March 1, seeing action first in France and later in Germany with the 86th Infantry division. An East High graduate, he was employed by the Wheeler Cheese corporation before induction. He had made his boyhood home with his aunt, Miss Agnes Keogh.
His brother, T/Sgt Kenneth Ollinger served with an ordnance company in France.
