Pfc Edward R. Stoneberg enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 19 March 1941. He was sent overseas in December 1943.

According to a newspaper article, Pfc Stoneberg was a member of a squad assigned to night patrol in a truck. His truck was ambushed by the enemy.

His brother Norman served in the U.S. Navy.
