T/4 Charles L. Sewa worked at Palo Alto and San Jose, California, and at another time operated a service station in Roseburg, Oregon, where he married Vera Blenz in 1939. He and his wife came east and he subsequently worked in Detroit from June 1942 to March 1943

He enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 22 March 1943.
