Pfc John M. Gessick attended college for 2 years and was a machinist apprentice.

He enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 18 November 1942. He trained at Camp Adair, Oregon and Camp Carson, Colorado. He was overseas for just three months.

Pfc Gessick was wounded in action in the vicinity of Putzlohn, Germany on 23 November 1944 and taken prisoner and transferred to the Krieglazarett Knechtsteden near Dormagen, where he died on 4 December.

At the time of his death, two of his brothers also served, Clarence was stationed at Camp Belvoir in Virginia and Francis was serving in Germany.
