More information

Pfc Warren Hawley was a jockey.

He enlisted on 7 September 1943 at Richmond, Virginia.

He joined his unit from a replacement depot on 12 October 1944 and was promoted to Private First Class on 3 November 1944.

The aim was to break through the German defenses at the windmill on the outskirts west of Siersdorf. Due to firefights and mortar shells coming from the direction of the windmill, I Company got stuck in the field and dozens of GI's of this company were killed between 12:00 and 15:00. At 15:00 I Company was relieved by L Company and the decimated I Company was able to withdraw towards Baesweiler.

Pfc Hawley is one of the casualties.
