Pvt Elmer E. Dickinson was employed by the Rath Packing Co.

He enlisted in Waterloo, Iowa on 10 February 1941 and trained at Camp Claiborne in Louisiana. He was sent overseas with in January 1942 and participated in the Allie landings in North Africa.

Pvt Dickinson was reported missing in action on 6 December 1942. In May 1943, the Vatican bureau of information reported he was taken prisoner. He died in Stalag II-B on 18 June 1944 of appendicitis with peritonitis complications.

In his last letter home in April, Pvt Dickinson wrote he was "feeling fine" and would be home soon.
