Pfc Ralph E. Bishop enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 26 June 1943 and was sent overseas in November 1944.

Extract of the After Action Report of 3rd Battalion:
"Report received at CP that man of K Company had been stepping on mines. Litter Squad called for Pfc Ralph E Bishop, but he was killed. Lt Brooks, t/Sgt Podalak were wounded by mines. Bishop's body was not recovered untill next day by Charles McBroom and James L Mynes of K Company."

According to the IDPF, Pfc Bishop was killed by a gunshot wound in the head.

He was first buried in a temporary grave at Henri-Chapelle on 28 February 1945. He was disinterred on 20 November 1947 ans his remains were prepared and placed in a casket on 4 December 1947. He was given his final resting place on 9 August 1948.
