Ardell W. Payne worked at the Merrill-Stevens Dry Dock and Repair Company as a machine operator.He enlisted at Camp Blanding, Florida on 19 June 1943.
He landed on Omaha Beach on D Day and was lightly wounded in action that day. He rejoined his unit on 27 July 1944 and was again lightly wounded in action on 14 October 1944. He rejoined his unit on 28 January 1945.
