On 2 March 1945, the battalion was moved up north from Valkenburg to the vicinity of Roermond. During a stop, one of the men of B Company stepped on an S-mine which killed five and injured six others.His brother Albert served with the 307th Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific with the rank of captain.
