1st Lt John Douglas Stinson graduated from St. Ignatius High School and the University of San Francisco with the class of 1939 where he was a well known football player.He enlisted on 14 March 1941.
Lt Stinson, along with a supporting tank from HQ Company, were covering the advance of an infantry squad in the town of Unna. While leading his platoon, Lt Stinson's tank was hit by Panzerfaust fire. He and two of his crew were killed. Lt Stinson survived for a short while, then died from a major head wound. For this action he was awarded the Silver Star Medal postumously.
