1st Lt Emerson joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in January 1942 and in July 1943, transferred to the U.S. Army Air force.He was married to Miss Shiela Roche, an Irish girl, on 15 August 1944 with whom he planned to come to the United States in November 1944.
Lt. Emerson had completed his quota of missions and had planned to be home on leave around Thanksgiving. However, he volunteered to fly another mission during which he met his death.
