Lt Charles A. Shackley, Jr was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: In two attacks on the front in France, Shackley's platoon destroyed three Mark V tanks and a French tank. On Oct. 6, he captured ninety-five prisoners. He was killed in action near Waurichen Germany, Oct. 7. The platoon's many successes were due to Shackley's leadership, initiative, skillful maneuver and heroism.He is remembered at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Denver County, Colorado.
