Pfc Wilfred Baker graduated from Community High School and attended college for one year.He enlisted on 4 August 1944 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
On 16 April, the third battalion pushed off from Pegau, aiming for its final objective, Zwenkau. They got only a mile down the road when heavy resistance was met in the vicinity of Audigast.
