S/Sgt Marthal N. Franklin graduated from Columbia High School in 1940 before he volunteered for the Army Air Corps of the Army of the United States on 1 July 1942.The airplane was shot down by enemy aircraft and flak, which knocked out two engines. The entire crew of ten men was killed.
S/Sgt Franklin is remembered at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin, Webster Parish, Louisiana with a memorial marker.
