T/5 Lewis E. Shaw graduated from Redding High School in 1940 before he enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Texas on 1 July 1942.He received severe injuries on the afternoon of 18 February in the area of Grund, a part of Luxembourg City. The vehicle in which he was riding accidently left the road and struck a tree. He was promptly removed to an Army hospital where every possible medical aid was administrated in an effort to save his life, but death occured later that day as a result of the injuries sustained. The medical report stated his death was the result of respiratory and myocardial failure due to concussion and cerebral damage.
T/5 Shaw is remembered at Redding Cemetery in Redding, Ringgold County, Iowa with a memorial marker.
