1st Lt Herman H. Kiehne attended college for two years and was a policeman and detective when he joined the National Guard in Springfield, Illinois on 25 November 1940. He was sent overseas late in January 1944.1st Lt. Herman H. Kiehne was killed by shrapnel while making sure his platoon was properly secured.
