More information

Pfc Ralph R. Emproto enlisted in New York City, New York on 28 April 1943.

The Silver Star was presented posthumously to his mother. The citation reads as follows: Pfc Ralph R. Emproto while serving with the army, distinguished himself by gallantry in action on Feb. 25, 1945. The unit to which he was attached was attacking the town of Holsthum, Germany. When they were suddenly subjected to an intense concentration of machine-gun and small-arms fire. When a man was wounded by the fire, Pfc Emproto immediately went to his aid despite the fact that he had to crawl through open terrain under the heavy fire. Upon reaching his wounded comrade and discovering that immediate treatment of his wounds was necessary, he remained in a exposed position and administered aid to him. While performing this act he was fatally wounded. His loyal devotion to his fellow-comrades will remain a lasting inspiration and exemplifies the highest traditions of the armed forces of the United States
