Pfc Benell T. Brown graduated from Greenville High School in 1941 and was employed for a time by the Genre Clothing Co.He enlisted in Peoria, Illinois on 4 December 1942. He first served with an anti-aircraft unit before he requested transfer to the Air Corps. Due to a shortage of infantrymen and a surplus of personnel in the Air Corps, he was transferred to the infantry in April 1943 and sent overseas in December 1944.
Benell Brown was married to Genevieve A. Wheat on 13 May 1944.
