Pfc Constant J. Baker was a graduate of Windsor High School, Windsor, Vermont, and attended Vermont Junior College in Montpelier, Vermont. He was also an outstanding athlete during his high school years, captain of three sports and best remembered for the 1935 Vermont State Football Championship game when he played quarterback without a helmet.He enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 26 April 1944.
