1st Lt Robert L. Darrah enlisted in Camp Upton Yaphank, New York on 5 January 1942.

Lt. Darrah and his driver set out before breakfast to contact the 378th. He made the contact and they were on their way back to Pange to be on time for the Thanksgiving turkey. On a shortcut over a narrow road there was an explosion when a mine or a dynamite charge was set off. Lt. Darrah was killed instantly, and the driver wounded.

He was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Limey, France.
