Pvt Lewis A. Watts Jr. graduated from Maury High School before he enlisted in Richmond, Virginia on 28 June 1943.He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his buttock and hip.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Saint-Juan, France.
