T/Sgt Hoey enlisted in January 1941.

He was wounded in Tunisia in 1943 and during the Normandy campaign.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal and the Bronze Star Medal posthumously, which was presented to his aunt, Mrs. Daniel Hoey, by Acting Adjutant Maj Gen Edward F. Witsell.
