Pfc Herbert B. Strickland was employed at the J. W. Jordan Nehi Bottling Company before he enlisted at Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 26 October 1943. He was sent overseas in April 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Saint-Juan, France.
