Pfc Howard W. Parkinson attended Hartwell High School for one year and worked at Loroco Industries, Inc.

He enlisted at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky on 22 March 1943.
On 7 June 1945, the Division was on guard duty along the Enns River in Gersten, Austria. Pfc Parkinson got caught up in a swift current and drowned while attempting to swim across the river where his commanding officer was. His body was never recovered.
