S/Sgt Donald A. Hunt worked in the manufacture of boots and shoes before he volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States on 20 December 1942 in Portland, Maine.B-24 (#41-29578) was first damaged by enemy flak and was then attacked by German ME 109 fighters. The B-24 eventually had to make a crash landing in Hungary. Everyone, except for the pilot, bailed out of the plane.
Donald, was wounded by cannon and machine gun fire from the ME 109`s prior to parachuting out. The entire crew, except for the pilot, became POW's. Donald died of his wounds four days after the crash in a hospital in Hungary.
