M/Sgt Stanley A. Way enisted in Portland, Oregon on 18 March 1941. He was born at Newberg, Oregon and grew to manhood in Lexington, where he graduated from high school. He was among those called in the first draft from Morrow county and had worked up to the rank of master sergeant in the Service Department Tank Corps.
At 2.45 am, an enemy airplane dropped several bombs. A direct hit on one of the houses, occupied by Service Company, killed 8 men, all members of Battalion Maintenance Platoon. M/Sgt Way was a member of his unit since the activation in Fort Lewis, Washington on 16 May 1942.
