More information

Pvt Earl E. Easterbrook attended Menard Memorial High School with the class of 1927 and worked as an electrician before he enlisted at Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 13 March 1942.

He participated in the invasions of Sicily, Italy, Normandy and the Netherlands.

His parents received word that Pvt Easterbrook was found by Canadian patrols in "No-Man's Land." His identity tags had been removed but his pay record was found in one of his pockets. He was brought back to the Canadian battalion headquarters and they buried him beside a hedge a few hundred yards back of the front line and they marked his grave by a wooden cross. There was no chaplain available and the burial was conducted by Lt J.A. Davidson, officer of the R.C.C.S., Canadian Army, followed by a short service according Protestant lines.

Pvt Easterbrook was killed during a minelaying party.
