More information
Lt Jones was awarded the Bronze Star Medal postumously for his action on the day of his death. He voluntarily went forward to contact lead elements of a task force. En route he was under intense artillery and machine gun fire. During the night, when the town was shelled, he directed the men to cover and helped organize vehicles for the advance. The medal was presented to his son in August 1945.Source of information: Allison Powers-Farrow (Jones), granddaughter, www.abmc.gov, www.wwiimemorial.com - Mrs. Marie Jones, www.ancestry.com - 1930 Census / Beede Family Tree, The Boston Globe 1 September 1945
