More information

Pvt David E. Grubbs attended the New Mexico Military Institute.

He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Roswell, New Mexico on 16 November 1942. He trained at Camp Maxey, Texas, Ohio State University (A.S.T.P.), Camp Swift in Texas and Fort Dix, New Jersey.

During the night on 16-17 December a crew from the company crossed two infantry patrols at Flossdorf in an assault boat using a rope attached to the near and far shore. These two patrols were returned safely; one other was taken across, but it never returned to the crossing site. A seven man crew utilizing the principle of the flying ferry crossed in an assault boat which submerged near the enemy shore. One man was lost.'

Pvt Grubbs was seen floating down stream on the Roer River.
