More information

Pvt George H. Ford enlisted in Ft Leavenworth, Kansas on 28 January 1941.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action against the enemy in Germany on 8 December 1944. The citation cited: While serving as a dismounted Infantryman in a forward outpost on the front line, Pvt Ford heard that one of the men in a fox-hole one hundred yards distant was seriously wounded. Immediately, Pvt Ford taking a first aid packet from a nearby soldier, and under heavy enemy artillery, mortar and small arms fire rushed to the wounded man in plain view of the enemy. Shielding the wounded man with his own body, Pvt Ford administered first aid. The wounded man was so seriously wounded that he soon died. Pvt Ford then rushed back to inform his platoon leader in time to halt further efforts of the medical personnel to evacuate the casualty. Pvt Ford's heroic action, courage and high regard for his comrades reflect great credit upon himself and his military service.
