S/Sgt Thomas C. Schwakopf attended St. Joseph High School for three years and was an electrician.During his high school period, he was prominent in athletics. He was a member of the St. Joseph's high football team in 1937, 1938, 1939 and 1940 and of the basketball team in 1937 and 1938.
He enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 5 April 1941 and trained at Fort Meade, Maryland, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Sgt Schwakopf was in the service for almost four years and had been overseas for six months when he was killed.
