Pfc James Howington graduated from Central Night School.

He was an editor of the Belle Glade Herald in Florida. He was also employed by the Morris Plan Bank.

He enlisted on 29 December 1942 at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He was overseas since July 1944 and joined his unit from a replacement depot on 1 September 1944.
