Pfc William C. Thompson Jr. graduated from Yale University in 1943 with a B.A. and in 1944 with a master in Linguistics.

He enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts in May 1944.

In October, 1944 he was transferred to Headquarters, Company Z, Corps of Engineers, serving in Belgium and Germany as an interpreter. Prior to his death he was in Germany, near Erfurt, arranging for billets for occupying forces.

His death was due to injuries received in an automobile accident.
