Pfc Vernon M. B. Priebe enlisted on 30 December 1943 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

He joined his unit from a replacement depot on 3 September 1944. He was promoted to Private First Class on 12 November 1944 and was seriously wounded in action on 26 February 1945.
