Pfc Max J. Opitz enlisted at Camp Wolters, Denton County, Texas on 4 February 1942.

He was married to Frances Aline McBride just before he went overseas.

He was reported seriously wounded in action during the battle of Jülich, on 16 December 1944 and died the same day.

His father and mother were born in Germany.
