Pfc William Lyons graduated from St. Canice's and Connelly Trade School and worked for the Union Supply Co.

He was sent overseas in April 1944 and joined his unit from a replacement depot on 20 June 1944.

His brother Dennis served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific. He was reported missing in action on 17 November 1943 on Bougainville, Solomon Islands and is commemoriated at Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines.
