S/Sgt Andrew Foppe graduated from St. Xavier High School and attended Xavier University Business College.

His father was a reporter for The Cincinnati Enquirer for a short time and was city hall reporter at the time of his death. Andrew Foppe also was a reporter for the same newspaper and was assistant financial editor.

He enlisted in Cincinnati, Ohio on 17 May 1943.

He joined his unit from a replacement depot on 7 August 1944. He was promoted to Corporal on 14 August 1944, to Sergeant on 22 September 1944 and to Staff Sergeant on 12 October 1944.

A quote from the the book, "From Brittany to the Reich":
''As they dashed across the open field to a slight rise in the ground, a shell hit in the center of the group, seriously wounding all of the men except Lt Ungerleider. Oakhem and Foppe died within a few hours, and Paster lost a leg.
